Dispositions and Mind Workshop
May 30-31, 2012,
Kyung Hee University,
Seoul, South Korea
|
|
1. Aims and Purposes
Research into the nature of dispositions constitutes a thriving industry in contemporary metaphysics with significant implications for our understanding of causality, properties, conditionals, and the laws of nature. Intriguingly, from its inception there has been a connection between this body of work on the metaphysics of dispositions and inquiries in the philosophy of mind, and many researchers pursued active interest in both domains of inquiry. In this workshop we will continue this tradition, focusing on such interfaces as:
|
● Dispositions and mental causation
● Dispositions, motivations, and desires
● Dispositions and intentionality
● Dispositions, externalism, and the extended mind
● Dispositions and agency
● Dispositions, values, and moral responsibility
|
Bringing together scholars from east, west, and south, we will seek to explore the implications of cutting edge research into the metaphysics of dispositions for the study of contemporary issues in the philosophy of mind. We hope that the hospitable climate of a small workshop will encourage dialogue and future interactions among participants, and we also hope that our gathering will contribute to the ongoing development of analytic philosophy in East Asia.
